What can moisturizer do for your skin?

Skin is continuously losing moisture to the atmosphere by diffusion of water vapor through the stratum corneum (outer layer of the skin) and the sweat glands. A water content of 10-20% in the stratum corneum is required to keep it soft and supple.

Cosmetic formulations can reserves dry or dehydrated skin by a process called moisturization. Moisturizers has ability of a preparation to increase the water content of the stratum corneum and they are applied for the relief of the signs and symptoms of dry skin leaving it soft, smooth and supple.
